In today’s world, people don’t just want a job. People want fulfilling careers, with opportunities to learn, grow, and advance while doing work that matters. Just as important are the people you work alongside, knowing that your coworkers have your back and enjoy sharing a laugh or two.

The modern age of CNC machining can be all that and more. The days of dirty shop floors and drill sergeant foremen are long gone. At Stecker Machine, growth opportunities abound, and our family-oriented culture makes it a place where individuals can thrive.

Watch our video to hear directly from those who’ve found a fulfilling CNC machining career, and be inspired to join them.

The Benefits of Today’s CNC Career

It’s one thing to have a company leader try to convince you that their CNC shop is different from others in the industry. It’s another when those who work the floor every day have something to say about it.

Check out the benefits of a CNC career at Stecker in our employees’ own words.

Opportunities for Advancement

Some may overlook CNC precision machining jobs because they lack experience. However, many at Stecker started their careers armed with a mechanical aptitude and a knack for working with their hands.

Dave Rupp is a Tooling Procurement Specialist at Stecker. “Our engineers all started on the floor,” he said. “That’s the big thing about Stecker: the ability to move up the ranks. They’re willing to take chances on people they know have the skill and ability to do things.”

“I got thrown a lot of opportunities and I took full advantage of all of them,” said Brandon Fuller, CNC Operator. “The further I advance myself and bring [others] up to another level; we’re all kind of reaching the ceiling together.”

Dan Karbon, Continuous Improvement Engineer, agrees. “If you come to work and do your job and show that, you’re going to advance in this company,” he said.

Continuous Improvement & Training

Dylan Klein is a machine operator who began his career working the third shift. “I wanted to come to the first shift,” said Dylan. “So they initiated more training so I [could] move on and move up as a machine operator. If [you] want to learn more, they will open up opportunities for you to learn.”

Dan Karbon enjoys mentoring others on the team. “We have a really good training program here,” said Dan. “It’s enjoyable for me to train someone new and to see them learn something, to see the lightbulb go on in their head.”

“This career path is always evolving and so is this industry,” added Brandon.

Fulfilling Work

Some envision a CNC machining career as one where they’ll stand in front of a machine all day pressing buttons. This is far from the truth according to Brandon Fuller.

“It’s a great career in manufacturing,” said Brandon. “I like to move around, do different things, take on different challenges. You don’t do the same day twice. You learn something new one day and apply it the next.”

Dylan echoes Brandon’s sentiments, stating, “I really love math and science. It’s more hands-on and I’m using math. I’m learning more…I have to use more knowledge and not just press a button to get through the day and produce a part.”

A Vibrant Culture

An advantage of being a family-owned business is the tight-knit community that’s formed among employees and leadership.

“It’s a growing company but it still has the small, machine shop culture to it. Everybody knows everybody,” said Brandon. “Any time we’re problem-solving, we’re all working together, not against each other.”

Dan couldn’t agree more. “I truly enjoy coming to work. It’s family-based,” he said.

A Commitment to Quality & Each Other

The drive to deliver on promises made to customers and to continuously improve stems from Stecker’s guiding principles. Developing people beyond just their skills is at the heart of our mission. We understand the importance of leveraging each individual’s unique strengths as the company and industry continue to evolve, and we equip them with the tools and training they need.

There’s a certain satisfaction that comes from seeing projects come to life and contributing to the success of our customers and company. The foundation of that success begins with helping to ensure the success of each team member.
